Fans have been hoping for that Zelda: Dusk Princess will get a Switch release date from the time the console launches. Since it’s the 35th anniversary of the series, one would think that Nintendo would be bringing the Twilight Princess to its newest console, especially since an HD version was made for the Wii U which could be a direct port.
Will The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess get a Switch release date?
It looks like Zelda: Twilight Princess won’t be getting a Switch release date. Despite rumors that Zelda’s 35th anniversary collection is in production, series creator Eiji Aonuma is closing in on hopes that Twilight Princess will release on Switch, at least this year. Unfortunately, Aonuma stated, that Skyward Sword HD will be the only Zelda title released on Switch to celebrate its anniversary at E3 2021.
Unfortunately, Nintendo is bad at making good use of its back catalog, so it’s unlikely that Twilight Princess will be coming to the Switch anytime soon, if ever. Oddly enough, the Wii U title that moved fewer copies than Twilight Princess HD has moved to the Switch, but the company’s decision rarely makes sense to fans.
Unlike Wind Waker, which initially drew ridicule for its cellular cartoon art style, Twilight Princess was immediately lauded. Ironically, over the years, Wind Waker has become the more beloved entry in the series. However, the Twilight Princess is still viewed with affection.
We’ll be getting Skyward Sword HD, but it seems like an odd choice considering Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Majora’s Mask are more memorable. Maybe if Skyward Sword sells well, we’ll finally get a chance to play another 3D Zelda game on the Switch. For now, we won’t hold our breath about their chances of coming to consoles.
