All told, these 41 DLC packs comprise nearly everything that has been released for the Mass Effect trilogy. We say “almost” because there are some omissions, especially Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. We’ll touch on more about that below.
However, there are some interesting additions offered in the new release. Among the list is Extended Cut of Mass Effect 3, a collection of cinematics previously available as a Wii U exclusive. The Legendary Edition also includes the interactive comic Genesis 2, which was as exclusive as the previous Wii U release.
Fans of the old series may also remember that many of the DLC packs for Mass Effect 2 were made available via the Cerberus Network. However, BioWare shut down the service nearly a decade ago. Fortunately, every story and weapon pack initially offered through the Cerberus Network — including all downloadable paid content packs — is all free in the Legendary Edition.
What Mass Effect DLC is not included in the Legendary Edition?
There are only two DLC packs not included with Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Pinnacle Station for the original Mass Effect, and the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer component.
Pinnacle Station was one of only two DLC packs released for the original Mass Effect, and while it has fans, it doesn’t really matter from a story point of view. That’s not why it wasn’t included. Turns out it was developed by an outside studio—Demiurge—who was unable to provide the BioWare team with a working copy of the original source code. According to game director Mac Walters (via Game Informer), the decision to remove Pinnacle from the Legendary Edition was “heartbreaking.”
As for Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, it seems that including a multiplayer component would be too much of a hassle. The game is practically antiquated now, and getting multiplayer to work across all platforms doesn’t seem to be on the cards.
Fortunately, there are still 41 DLC packs in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. All told, this is still the most comprehensive collection of the Mass Effect trilogy ever presented. It’s a shame that Pinnacle Station and Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer didn’t work, but the rest of the DLC roster should be more than enough to satisfy fans of the series.
